The competition is open only to BJCP 2015 Categories 1-34 (beer only).
Awards will be given for 1st place winning beers in all
categories and Best of Show.
Evaluation forms will be e-mailed back to all contestants shortly after
the competition. Anyone wanting a paper copy can pick them up at Home Sweet Homebrew
a week after the event.
We are a small, local competiton. Our prizes typically are gift certificates to local establishments.
Although we do not discourage non-locals from submitting entries, take this as fair warning in regards to prizes.
If you have any questions, call Home Sweet Homebrew or send
e-mail
to the event organizer.
Information about various sub-competitions can be found at here.
Competition Guidelines and Entry Requirements
-
The competition is open to all homebrewers whose sole purpose is to make beer for consumption by themselves,
their families, and their friends. If any commerical interest or intent is discovered (e.g. you are perfecting
your recipes to go commercial and you publically state as much), the entries, regardless of how good they may be, will be disqualified from winning.
-
The fee is $8.50 for each entry.
All payments will be through PayPal which is linked to the registration process. No cash, checks, or credit cards will be accepted.
-
Any request for a PayPal refund due to not submitting an entry or damage of an entry in transport will have $1 per entry deducted from the refund to cover PayPal costs.
- All entries must be registered online at Reggiebeer.com.
-
Entries may be dropped off at any of the locations listed below.
Dates when entries will be accepted are also listed.
-
Drop off locations are accepting entries for more than one competition.
Entries should be clearly labeled
as "HOPS BOPS" to avoid confusion with these other competitions.
-
All bottles must be at the drop off locations by COB 10/12. Judges are not allowed to bring their entries the day of the competition.
-
TWO (12-16oz) bottles per entry.
Bottles must be free of labels or identifying marks.
Printed crown caps must be blacked out.
An online-generated
bottle ID form
must be attached to each bottle with a rubber band.
No glue or tape.
- Brewers participating in the Yards or German Bierfest sub-competitions need to retain a third bottle that, upon notification, needs to be submitted
within two weeks for a run-off.
-
Only one entry per BJCP subcategory is allowed with a maximum of two
entries per BJCP category.
-
Beer will be judged according to the category it was entered in.
Please consult the
2015 BJCP Style Guidelines.
The competition is restricted to categories 1-34 of the 2015
style guidelines.
Any ciders or meads entered will be disqualified, though they will be
happily drunk and verbally judged by the competition staff. Those wishing to enter
meads into competition are referred to our friends in the suburbs
running Valhalla.
-
The competition is capped at 150 entries.
-
The competition organizers reserve the right to collapse categories as
they deem appropriate.
-
All entries become property of HOPS. No entries will be returned.
Only home-brewed (not commercial or commercially assisted) beers
may be entered (must conform to AHA guidelines for homebrew).
-
Entries that do not follow these guidelines and entry requirements will be disqualified.
Disqualified entries may be judged but are not eligible for any of the awards.
-
Any questions or disputes that arise during the competition will be
settled by the competition organizers with all decisions being final.
Entry collection times are listed by location. Online registration will close at 8pm ET on 10/11.
It is the responsibility of the entrant to get the entries to the drop off locations in a timely manner.
